Ask a document something and get an answer that cites the page it came from.
What this does
A question about the break clause needs the clause and its neighbours, not the other ninety-nine pages. So the passages that answer your question are picked out here, on your own machine, and only those are sent — which is cheaper and faster, and, more to the point, keeps ninety-nine pages the question was never about off somebody else’s computer. Each question is prepared and shown separately, because each one sends a different part of your document.
What it will not do
Every tool here says what it cannot do, in its own words, before you rely on it.
- Only the passages that match the question are sent. A question whose answer is spread across a whole document may reach only part of it, and you are told how many of how many are going.
- Passages are ranked by the words they share with your question. A question that uses none of the document’s own words finds nothing, and you are told so before anything is sent.
- A scanned page holds a picture of words and cannot be searched or sent. Run OCR over it first.
- Each question is a separate request with its own cost. There is no conversation memory beyond what is shown on this page.

Does the whole file get sent?
No, and that is the point. The passages that answer your question are chosen on this device and shown to you in full; the rest of the document stays here.
What if the document does not answer my question?
You are told before anything is sent, and the model is instructed to say so rather than guess. A document that holds none of your question’s words is reported as such on this page.
What exactly is sent to the provider?
The text on the screen under “what will be sent”, and nothing else of your document. It is not a summary of the request — it is the request. Nothing is sent until you press send, and the page cannot send it before showing it to you, because the code refuses.
What does this cost?
Pagecraft charges nothing and never will. Your provider charges you for what you send it, at their rates, on your own account — and you are shown the token count and an estimate in dollars before you send anything. A model on your own machine costs nothing at all.
Do I have to pay for an API key?
No. Install Ollama or LM Studio, run a model on your own computer, and point Pagecraft at it: no key, no bill, and your document never leaves the device. That path is first-class here rather than a degraded fallback.
