Summarise a PDF
Read a long document and say what it says, with the page for every claim.
What this does
A summary of a forty-page report is worth having only if you can check it, so every claim in this one carries the page it came from. The document is read here, on your own machine, and what crosses the network is the passages you are shown first — not the file. If the model cites a page that was never sent to it, that is reported to you rather than hidden, because it is the clearest sign there is that a sentence was invented rather than read.
What it will not do
Every tool here says what it cannot do, in its own words, before you rely on it.
- A scanned page holds a picture of words and has nothing to send. Run OCR over it first.
- A document longer than what may be sent is summarised from the part that was sent, and you are told how much did not fit before anything goes.
- A citation is checked against what was sent, not against the document. A page that was sent and misread still cites correctly.
- The summary is the model’s reading of the document. It is worth what the model is worth, which is why every sentence carries the page to check it against.
Questions people ask
Is my document uploaded to summarise it?
Not to Pagecraft: there is no server here to upload it to. The words go to the AI provider you configured yourself, with your own key, and you read exactly what is going before it goes. Point it at a model on your own machine and nothing leaves the device at all.
Can I trust the summary?
Check it. Every claim carries its page, so checking takes seconds, and a citation pointing at a page that was never sent is flagged for you.
What exactly is sent to the provider?
The text on the screen under “what will be sent”, and nothing else of your document. It is not a summary of the request — it is the request. Nothing is sent until you press send, and the page cannot send it before showing it to you, because the code refuses.
What does this cost?
Pagecraft charges nothing and never will. Your provider charges you for what you send it, at their rates, on your own account — and you are shown the token count and an estimate in dollars before you send anything. A model on your own machine costs nothing at all.
Do I have to pay for an API key?
No. Install Ollama or LM Studio, run a model on your own computer, and point Pagecraft at it: no key, no bill, and your document never leaves the device. That path is first-class here rather than a degraded fallback.
