What this does
This puts answers into a document’s form fields, addressed by name, and saves the file filled in. Every answer is written twice — as the value a form carries and as the drawing a reader shows — because readers disagree about which to believe, and a form filled in by a tool that only wrote one of them looks blank in half the readers in the world. An answer a field cannot hold is refused rather than written.
What it will not do
Every tool here says what it cannot do, in its own words, before you rely on it.
- A value a field cannot hold is refused rather than written: an option a chooser does not offer, text longer than the field takes, a word in a tick box.
- Every box is drawn as well as recorded, so the answers show in any reader rather than only in the ones that redraw a form for themselves.
- A font file you supply is used as you chose it. Otherwise the form’s own typeface is kept, where it is one of the fourteen every reader has — a form set in a font it embeds is filled in a fallback face, which may not look identical.
- A field the form’s author locked is filled like any other. The lock is a note to the person at the keyboard, not something the file enforces.
- A signature field is not filled here, and a push button holds nothing to fill.
- The answers can still be changed by whoever receives the document. Run Flatten to bake them in.
Questions people ask
The person I send it to can still change my answers. Can I stop that?
Yes — run Flatten afterwards. That bakes the answers into the page, so nothing can read them back out as a form or alter them.
How do I find out what the fields are called?
Use List PDF form fields. It gives every field’s full name, its type and what it currently holds, which is exactly what you need to address an answer to it.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The work happens in this browser tab, on your own machine. There is no server in this product to send a file to, which is why the promise is checkable rather than something you have to take on trust: open your browser's network panel and watch it do the work without making a request.
Is there a size limit, or a limit on how many files?
None that we impose. The limit is your own machine's memory, because that is where the work happens — a few hundred megabytes is comfortable on a laptop, and less on a phone. There is no daily task counter, no queue and no account.
What does it cost, and what is the catch?
Nothing, and there is no paid tier that unlocks features: the whole product is the free one. That is affordable because running it costs us nothing — your computer does the work — so there is no per-file cost to recover, no advertising and no data to sell.
